Lesson 1: Celebrity Spawn

Computer Art, Photoshop- grades 9-12.

This lesson has been borrowed from my professor (Brian Sikes) at DePaul University. I used this as a jumping off point to see what my students already knew from their fabulous teacher, so that I could figure out their skill level before pushing them into new and exciting projects (and tools!).
In this lesson, I gave them 4 days to take images of two celebrities (or of themselves) and combine them to create a spawn offspring. They needed to use layers, blending tools, adjustments (color, contrast, etc) in order to create a 50/50 new person. I was very pleased with their skills and creativity!
Check out all the crazy photos!

Lesson Plan 0: The beginning

Welcome to the beginning of my student teaching portion of the blog. I've been teaching for 3 weeks now. I've taken over 3 computer art classes for the entirety of those 3 weeks, and have just begun taking over Intermediate Drawing and Painting, and will soon take on Ceramics I (a sculpture unit!)

So far it's been a complete joy to be working with my high school students. They definitely keep me on my toes, and I'm so excited to see what they create!! I hope you enjoy the next blogs. They will contain a description of the projects, demonstration images (done by me), and completed student projects. Let me know what you think, or if anyone has ideas or suggestions along the way.

Enjoy!
